On September 9–10, the 4th China International Photovoltaic Industry Summit Forum 2021 was grandly held at the Tongwei International Center in Chengdu. Dong Shuguang, President of Suzhou Talesun Photovoltaic Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Talesun Photovoltaic), was invited to attend the forum and took part in a roundtable discussion. With the theme “A New Era of Zero Carbon: A New Journey for Photovoltaics,” the event brought together numerous high-profile guests from government, industry, academia, and research institutions. They conducted an in-depth analysis of the photovoltaic industry’s development landscape—from global energy transition and the opportunities presented by the carbon‑neutral era, to China’s national conditions, industry trends, and the future prospects of photovoltaic renewable energy—while jointly exploring pathways for the sector’s continued growth.
On September 9–10, the 4th China International Photovoltaic Industry Summit Forum 2021 was grandly held at the Tongwei International Center in Chengdu. Dong Shuguang, President of Suzhou Talesun Photovoltaic Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Talesun Photovoltaic”), was invited to attend the forum and took part in a roundtable discussion.

This year’s forum is themed “A New Zero-Carbon Era, a New Journey for Photovoltaics.” A distinguished lineup of high‑profile guests from government, industry, academia, and research institutions has gathered to conduct an in-depth analysis of the photovoltaic sector’s development landscape—examining global energy transition trends, opportunities in the carbon‑neutral era, China’s national context, industry‑wide development dynamics, and the future prospects of photovoltaic renewable energy. Together, they are charting pathways for the industry’s advancement, aiming to propel the photovoltaic sector toward high‑quality growth on a broader scale, at greater depth, and at a higher level.
At noon on September 10, the 4th China International Photovoltaic Industry Summit Forum held a high-level roundtable discussion, during which participants explored ways to “enhance the photovoltaic industry and lead green development.” At the event, Dong Shuguang, President of Talesun Photovoltaic, stated: “This year marks the inaugural year of Talesun second entrepreneurial journey and the start of our capacity‑building phase. We are on track to achieve an annual output of 15 GW of modules and 12 GW of cells, a massive undertaking. Currently, we are adding at least 1 GW of module capacity and 1 GW of cell capacity each month.”
Since the onset of the pandemic, and particularly over the past year, the prices of key raw materials such as silicon ingots, wafers, and glass have risen sharply, posing significant challenges to supply-chain security and constraining the industry’s overall growth. Recently, upstream material prices have remained highly volatile, while intra‑industry competition has intensified. I have consistently called for shifting the focus of business operations away from supply-chain security and toward technological advancement, innovation, and product innovation—while also prioritizing management optimization and a customer‑centric value proposition. After all, technological and product innovation are the primary drivers of the industry’s future growth.

Over the past few years, Talesun Photovoltaic has faced operational challenges due to its poverty‑alleviation initiatives. Even with limited resources, we have never slackened in our commitment to R&D and technological investment. For mass‑produced PERC technology, we have relentlessly tapped its potential and optimized costs. At the same time, we are directing more R&D resources toward N‑type cells, which remain one of our key priorities—covering both TOPCon and heterojunction technologies, with relatively greater investment in heterojunction. Based on recent progress, we can now achieve laboratory conversion efficiencies approaching 25%. Looking ahead, by integrating perovskite and other advanced materials, I believe this could become one of the most promising pathways for the future of photovoltaics.
Finally, we would like to thank Tongwei for providing such a platform. Here, I also call on the industry to curb cutthroat competition, work together to foster healthier development, and drive the photovoltaic sector forward through technological advancement and product innovation.
With the introduction of China’s “dual carbon” goals, the rollout of the “county‑wide promotion” policy, and the launch of the carbon‑trading market, the domestic renewable‑energy sector has reached a new level of development. Zhongli Group has innovatively proposed the “6+1” model, offering even more robust solutions. Looking ahead, Talesun Photovoltaic will continue to pioneer advancements in photovoltaic technology and optimize the cost per kilowatt‑hour, striving to foster the growth of the PV industry, cultivate a healthy industry ecosystem, and make greater contributions to the energy transition in China and around the world.
