Recently, thanks to the continuous technological advancements and process optimizations by Zhongli Talesun R&D team, the company’s standard polycrystalline solar cells have achieved an average conversion efficiency of 18.58% and have successfully passed batch validation on a 100 MW pilot production line.

This technology employs ZhongliTalesun proprietary flower‑grid electrode structure, for which domestic and international invention patents have been granted (Chinese patent No. ZL201210546510.X; Japanese patent No. JP2013‑229566; additional related domestic and overseas patent filings are underway). Based on conventional manufacturing processes and without incurring extra costs, the technology achieves an average conversion efficiency of 18.58% on standard mainstream multicrystalline silicon wafers. Coupled with state‑of‑the‑art module encapsulation techniques, module power output is significantly enhanced, meeting the Tier‑2 efficiency requirement of the National Energy Administration’s “Leading Runner” program for multicrystalline solar modules. Currently, this technology has been deployed across 200 MW of cell and module production lines, and by the end of July, the company’s 2 GW production capacity is expected to have completed its full technological upgrade.

Dr. Wei Qingzhu, Director of Technology R&D at Zhongli Talesun, stated: “Since 2013, through continuous technological advancements, Zhongli Talesun has made significant progress, increasing the average cell efficiency from an initial 17.10% to the current 18.58%. By the end of this year, we expect to surpass an average mass‑production conversion efficiency of 18.80%. In line with our product roadmap, the company will soon launch a series of specialized, high‑efficiency cells, modules, and photovoltaic application products, further expanding our product portfolio.”

Dr. Ni Zhichun, Vice President of Zhongli Talesun, stated: “The company places great emphasis on technological innovation and actively builds up its portfolio of proprietary intellectual property. The substantial improvement in the efficiency of conventional‑process polycrystalline solar cells this time is attributable to the adoption of flower‑grid technology, which Zhongli Talesun pioneered and was the first to implement in the industry. This technology has secured both domestic and international patents and has since been adopted by numerous companies across the sector. Our corporate culture is characterized by steadiness and humility, rooted in the belief that sound execution is the cornerstone of business success. Similarly, our R&D team has consistently pursued a low‑key, pragmatic approach, dedicating itself to developing high‑efficiency cell and module technologies while placing particular focus on large‑scale deployment, production‑line efficiency, and cost‑effectiveness. By enhancing the conversion efficiency of standard polycrystalline solar cells, we are making significant strides in reducing product costs and strengthening our core competitiveness in both domestic and international markets.”
