Although recent increases in silicon wafer and photovoltaic glass prices have placed significant pressure on the sector—temporarily driving up module costs and exacerbating supply shortages—these factors will not materially impede the industry’s progress toward grid parity. A decline in prices remains the overarching trend.
From a developmental and dialectical perspective, this price hike is actually beneficial for the industry: within the entire photovoltaic value chain, the gross margins of photovoltaic glass and silicon wafers are currently excessively high, while supply remains tight. This price increase will inevitably draw global market attention, prompting a broad expansion of production capacity for photovoltaic glass and silicon wafers at the macro level, optimizing industrial resource allocation, and addressing capacity gaps to achieve a balance between supply and demand worldwide. The expansion of both leading‑edge and new production capacities will undoubtedly meet market demand, generating profits for companies while accelerating the transition to grid parity.
