On September 10, the Third China International Photovoltaic Industry Summit Forum, themed “Empowering New Innovation and Transformation in the Next Decade of Photovoltaics,” was grandly held at the Tongwei International Center in Chengdu. More than 50 leaders from relevant government departments, over 80 experts and scholars in the photovoltaic industry, more than 400 leading enterprises, and hundreds of mainstream and industry media outlets gathered in the “City of Brocade” to discuss new pathways for the development of the photovoltaic sector.

In the morning, a roundtable discussion brought together industry leaders and senior executives—including Wang Weifeng, Chairman of Talesun Photovoltaic; Liao Kequan, Vice Mayor of Leshan Municipal People’s Government; Zhu Jinhe, Deputy County Magistrate of Jintang County, Chengdu, and Director of the Jintang Industrial Park Management Committee; Wang Lubao, Chairman of Jiangsu Huantai Group; Wang Yanqing, Chairman of Wuxi XianDao Intelligent Equipment Co., Ltd.; Wang Yibo, Executive Dean of the Eleventh Institute of China Electronics Technology Group Corporation; and Yang Hao, General Manager of Wuxi Shangji Numerical Control Co., Ltd.—to explore new opportunities for China’s photovoltaic energy sector under the theme “New Infrastructure, New Energy, New Opportunities.”

During the dialogue, Chairman Wang Weifeng delivered an insightful presentation on the theme “New Infrastructure, New Energy, New Opportunities.”

Under the impact of the pandemic, “new infrastructure” has been positioned as a new engine for China’s economic growth. As a green, low‑carbon energy source, photovoltaic power generation will play a pivotal role across the various sub‑sectors of this initiative. Notably, 2020–2022 marked the peak investment period for 5G deployment, with operators gradually increasing capital expenditures to build a nationwide commercial 5G network. However, most upgraded and renovated 5G base stations require newly installed electricity connections, and their equipment consumes significantly more power—several times that of 4G base stations. In this context, the combination of “5G + photovoltaics” emerges as an ideal solution: on the one hand, solar power can help reduce 5G construction costs by addressing its high energy consumption; on the other, 5G’s communication capabilities can meet the signal‑transmission and operational needs of photovoltaic systems. With the rapid advancement of 5G technology, China’s photovoltaic industry is set to board this fast‑moving train, accelerating the transition of PV companies toward intelligent manufacturing.

Another emerging opportunity for the photovoltaic sector lies in actively participating in project development within the Belt and Road Initiative’s PV markets. We should heed the nation’s call to “go global.” Since 2015, Talesun Photovoltaic has been committed to expanding into overseas PV markets, and in 2017 it supported PowerChina in completing the development of a 315 MW solar power plant in Argentina. This is the largest single‑site PV project in South America and also the first initiative between China and Argentina—signed under the witness of the two countries’ heads of state following the launch of the Belt and Road Initiative—to bear fruit in Argentina. Relying on its high‑quality photovoltaic modules and extensive experience in constructing projects on plateaus, Talesun Photovoltaic has helped Jujuy Province in Argentina transition from purchasing electricity from other provinces to achieving energy self‑sufficiency. “We can see that the new infrastructure boom has arrived, and photovoltaic power generation is poised to seize new opportunities once again.”
