Recently, Argentina’s 315 MW Gualcamayo photovoltaic power plant held its completion ceremony. The project is the largest PV facility in the country and throughout South America. Talesun Photovoltaic supplied all the modules, and the plant is currently undergoing grid connection and operational commissioning. The Argentine PV plant marks a new milestone in China–Argentina strategic relations. Signed at the 2017 G20 Summit in Buenos Aires under the joint witness of the heads of state of both countries, it represents a significant step forward in the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Argentina. In a video address, Chinese Ambassador to Argentina Zou Xiaoli extended her congratulations on the completion ceremony and highly commended the cooperation between China and Argentina throughout the project’s construction.

A New Milestone in China–Arab Strategic Relations

The project was signed at the 2017 G20 Summit in Buenos Aires, under the joint witness of the heads of state of China and Argentina, marking a new milestone in the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.

Chinese Ambassador to Argentina, Zou Xiaoli, delivered a video address to congratulate the project on its completion, while commending the cooperation and team spirit demonstrated by both China and Argentina throughout the construction process. Argentine President Mauricio Macri also extended his congratulations via video, noting that the Guaíra Project will enable more than 60,000 Argentine households to overcome electricity shortages and marking the beginning of Jujuy Province’s transition from conventional to clean energy.

Talesun provides components and technical support.

As a global leader in photovoltaic manufacturing and system integration, Talesun Photovoltaic not only supplied 974,400 high‑power PV modules for this project but also dispatched an experienced on-site installation management team to provide technical support.

The Cauchari Solar Park is located in the Cauchari region of Jujuy Province, at Argentina’s northernmost tip, at an elevation of over 4,000 meters. The area features a dry, low-oxygen climate and exceptionally abundant solar irradiance. Construction of the project spanned 14 months, covering approximately 8 square kilometers, and required workers to operate for extended periods under harsh environmental conditions.

Micaela Goni, General Manager of Talesun Photovoltaic’s Argentine subsidiary, told a Xinhua News Agency reporter: “Talesun is honored to serve as the module supplier for this project. All of our products undergo rigorous quality inspections and screening, and they have also passed environmental tests—such as sand‑dust, salt‑fog, ammonia exposure, and accelerated aging—conducted by internationally recognized testing agencies, ensuring that our modules can operate reliably even under a wide range of extreme conditions. For the Cauchari project, Jujuy Province will sell the generated electricity to the national power company. Local residents will not only benefit from the 1,500 direct jobs created by the solar plant but, once it is connected to the grid, will enjoy a steady supply of affordable, reliable power. Meanwhile, drawing on this flagship project, Jujuy Province has already developed several small‑scale photovoltaic plants in more remote communities across the Puna region. As a result, Jujuy may begin to transform into a major electricity‑producing province.”

Civil engineer Jorge Delgado, who is involved in the project, stated: “We are actively pursuing energy conservation and emission reduction through various measures to mitigate the severe environmental pollution caused by fossil fuels. Developing clean, renewable energy is one of the most effective approaches today—both for our generation and for future generations, ensuring a better living environment.”
