Recently, Talesun Photovoltaic announced the signing of a strategic cooperation agreement with ARTsolar, a South African‑based photovoltaic manufacturer. The two parties will engage in comprehensive collaboration to establish high‑quality, efficient, locally‑sourced PV module production capacity in South Africa, meeting the requirements of the government’s Renewable Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (RMIPPPP) aimed at mitigating electricity supply risks, and jointly tap into the South African market.
Founded in 2010 in Durban, South Africa, ARTsolar was co‑founded by entrepreneurs Eshu Seevnarayan and Patrick Goss. It is one of South Africa’s leading domestic manufacturers of photovoltaic modules, with an annual PV manufacturing capacity exceeding 300 MW. The company maintains close collaborations with numerous research institutions and universities, investing substantial resources each year in technological upgrades, process optimization, and employee skill development.
“Over the past decade and more, we have remained deeply committed to photovoltaic manufacturing, with full confidence in the prospects of localized production in South Africa and the broader renewable energy sector. We are also gratified to see that the renewable energy industry has received sustained and robust government support. With the backing of all stakeholders, we are on track to complete construction of a new 500 MW photovoltaic production line,” said Eshu Seevnarayan, Chairman of ARTsolar. According to reports, once the new line is commissioned, it is expected to create at least 220 additional local jobs.
Talesun Photovoltaic has been deeply engaged in photovoltaic manufacturing for more than a decade, amassing extensive experience and competitive advantages in areas such as R&D, production processes, and quality control. By partnering with ARTsolar, the two companies aim to achieve a win-win scenario characterized by complementary strengths, resource sharing, and joint development. Through upgrading and optimizing ARTsolar’s existing production lines, they will produce high‑quality, highly efficient, large‑format, locally manufactured PV modules, injecting fresh momentum into the South African market.
In 2022, global new photovoltaic capacity is expected to surpass the 200 GW threshold, placing the PV industry at a pivotal stage of significant growth opportunities. South Africa boasts abundant solar and wind resources and ample sunshine, making it a major GW‑scale PV market. Coupled with the South African government’s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPPP), which stimulates demand through competitive tariff auctions, photovoltaics in South Africa enjoy substantial room for expansion.
