In May 2019, experts and industry representatives from the photovoltaic sector conducted an on-site visit to Talesun Photovoltaic’s 160 MW fish‑solar complementary smart PV project in Huzhou, thoroughly inspecting both the construction progress and operational performance. According to the project leader at Talesun Photovoltaic, the Huzhou fish‑solar power station has a total planned capacity of 160 MW, with Phase I at 100 MW and Phase II at 60 MW—both of which have been connected to the grid and are operating stably. This project is the largest‑scale and most agriculturally impactful fish‑solar complementary PV plant in Huzhou. Since its grid connection in December 2015, it has generated over 170 million kWh of electricity annually, significantly exceeding initial projections, while maintaining low maintenance costs.
In May 2019, experts and industry representatives from the photovoltaic sector conducted an on-site visit to Talesun Photovoltaic’s 160 MW fish–solar complementary smart PV project in Huzhou, thoroughly inspecting both the construction progress and operational performance.

According to the project leader of Talesun Photovoltaic, the Huzhou Fishery‑Photovoltaic Power Station has a total planned capacity of 160 MW, with Phase I at 100 MW and Phase II at 60 MW, both of which have been connected to the grid and are operating stably.
This project is the largest‑scale and most agriculturally impactful agrivoltaic power station in Huzhou. Since connecting to the grid in December 2015, it has generated over 170 million kWh of electricity annually—far exceeding initial projections—while maintaining low operating and maintenance costs. As a result, it has become a benchmark example among cutting‑edge, world‑class integrated aquaculture–photovoltaic systems.
Fishery–photovoltaic complementary systems differ from conventional PV projects in that they are installed in highly humid environments, suffer from severe PID effects, face significant challenges in maintaining the water surface, and are prone to DC-side faults that can easily trigger plant‑wide accidents—issues that posed substantial design‑stage challenges for the project owner.
After several rounds of proposal evaluations, the project ultimately adopted Huawei’s smart photovoltaic solution across the board. In terms of system safety, reliability, and power generation, Huawei’s smart PV solution not only met but also exceeded the customer’s requirements, delivering maximum value. “The inverters boast high efficiency and stable operation; in 2018, the plant achieved a monthly PR as high as 89%, far surpassing our expectations,” said a site‑operation technician.
In addition, Huawei’s smart photovoltaic power‑plant solution offers flexible deployment and strong adaptability: it requires no additional land, does not necessitate modifications to the existing fishpond infrastructure, and does not interfere with civil‑engineering works. This helps project owners reduce system capital expenditures, accelerate installation timelines, and ultimately maximize project returns.
Huawei Smart PV’s Four Unique Values in Fish–Solar Complementary Systems
Greater safety: In fishpond environments, if a DC cable’s insulation is damaged and it comes into contact with water, it can pose an electrocution hazard. Huawei’s smart PV system eliminates the need for a DC combiner box, minimizing DC-side connections and cabling to the greatest extent. Moreover, in the humid conditions typical of fishponds, Huawei’s patented PID‑mitigation technology effectively prevents module degradation caused by potential‑induced degradation (PID), ensuring that photovoltaic modules remain in peak performance and optimal condition.
Higher power generation: With multi‑MPPT architecture (1 MW and more than 100 MPPT strings), it mitigates the impact of shading, inconsistent tilt angles and orientations, and string mismatch on energy output, boosting yields by over 3% in agrivoltaic systems. Moreover, under conditions that deliver equivalent energy output, the smart PV plant solution can reduce system capital costs by RMB 0.33 per watt compared to a centralized approach.
More reliable: The inverter boasts industry-leading reliability, with an availability exceeding 99.996%. Moreover, a single inverter failure does not disrupt the entire system’s power generation; it affects only a few tens of kilowatts and can be replaced directly, enabling rapid fault recovery. In addition, its active THD‑adaptive grid‑connection capability ensures high‑quality power supply.
Minimalist O&M: The inverter weighs just 48 kg, is easy to install, features IP65 protection, and boasts a maintenance-free design that resists salt‑mist and humidity. Paired with an intelligent operation‑and‑maintenance management system, it enables precise identification of string‑level faults, boosting O&M efficiency by more than 50%.
Huawei’s smart photovoltaic solutions significantly enhance project owners’ utilization of water surface resources, boost the economic value per unit area of land, and increase land productivity, effectively transforming fish ponds into energy‑generation hubs and delivering tangible economic and social benefits.
Solar panels, arrayed in graceful patterns under the sun, gleam with a shimmering silver sheen, presenting a scene of seamless integration between power generation and ecological and economic benefits—earning unanimous praise from every visitor.
