Japan’s largest energy trade show, PV EXPO, was held in Tokyo from February 27 to March 1. As one of the world’s biggest photovoltaic markets, Japan drew top-tier module manufacturers from around the globe, who showcased their latest cutting-edge technologies and products.
Japan’s feed-in tariff has been declining year after year, with the FIT rate having been reduced for six consecutive years. As a result, market demand for high-efficiency modules with low levelized cost of electricity is steadily growing, and in 2019, high-efficiency monocrystalline modules are set to become the mainstream in the Japanese market. As a global Tier‑1 module manufacturer, Talesun Photovoltaic has brought four high‑efficiency products to this exhibition, tailored to the specific needs of the Japanese market. The showcased products include monocrystalline PERC modules, lightweight monocrystalline PERC modules, half-cell monocrystalline PERC modules, and multi-busbar bifacial double-glass monocrystalline PERC modules.
The monocrystalline PERC modules on display are 72-cell units, with a maximum power output of up to 400 W—on par with any leading module manufacturer. Japan boasts numerous rooftop solar projects; however, given the country’s frequent natural disasters, lightweight modules have become the preferred choice for both residential and commercial‑industrial rooftop installations. At this exhibition, Talesun Photovoltaic is showcasing 60-cell, lightweight, high‑efficiency monocrystalline modules that deliver a peak power of up to 330 W.
In 2019, Talesun Photovoltaic is vigorously upgrading and optimizing its module product line, with the aim of expanding production capacity for half-cell modules. These half-cell modules leverage wafer‑slicing technology; when equipped with monocrystalline PERC cells, their power output can exceed that of conventional monocrystalline PERC modules by 5–10 W. At this year’s exhibition, Talesun Photovoltaic showcased a 72‑cell (144 half-cell) monocrystalline PERC module with a peak power of up to 410 W, making it one of the company’s most distinctive offerings.
The multi-busbar monocrystalline PERC bifacial double-glass module is the standout product showcased by Talesun Photovoltaic at this exhibition. Featuring an elegant design, it builds on the foundation of conventional bifacial double-glass modules by incorporating multi-busbar technology, delivering superior power performance: a 72-cell module can reach up to 385 W, while the bifacial system achieves a maximum combined output of 480 W. This product will significantly reduce the levelized cost of electricity and markedly boost the overall energy yield of solar power plants.
According to forecasts from leading research firms, Japan is expected to install more than 10 GW of photovoltaic capacity in 2019. Based on data from previous years, China’s annual exports of solar modules to Japan account for over 60% of the country’s total market demand. Mr. Sheng Hao, Vice President of Talesun Photovoltaic, stated: “Going forward, Talesun Photovoltaic will increase the share of high-efficiency monocrystalline products in its production capacity to align with evolving market trends.
