On March 11, the 2021 (8th) China Silicon Industry Chain Summit Forum was held in Changzhou, Jiangsu Province. Cai Xia, R&D Manager for new photovoltaic module products at Talesun Photovoltaics, attended and delivered a speech, joining numerous industry experts with years of deep experience in the PV market to discuss major trends shaping the development of China’s photovoltaic modules and the broader industry chain. The conference examined key topics—including industrial silicon and photovoltaics—through multiple lenses, such as national policies, technological innovation, and pressing challenges, while sharing cutting-edge technologies, emerging developments, and innovative applications to foster the sector’s healthy and rapid growth.

At the summit forum, Cai Xia shared her insights on the technological roadmap for high-efficiency photovoltaic modules. She noted that China’s PV industry is now poised for high-quality, high‑level development. As technical challenges are overcome, domestically produced equipment and supply‑chain components enjoy a significant cost advantage, and in some regions, the price competitiveness of PV modules over conventional energy sources is beginning to emerge. From a broader industry perspective, reducing the levelized cost of electricity from solar power is essential to achieving the ultimate goal of widespread grid parity.

Cai Xia also noted that, among the various emerging module technologies, larger‑size modules offer the advantage of reducing balance‑of‑system costs and are therefore likely to be increasingly favored by downstream end users. Talesun Photovoltaic’s newly launched Kirin module in 2020 was designed with end‑customer needs in mind, adopting a dual‑track strategy of single‑glass and bifacial products to closely align technological innovation with market demand. By leveraging mainstream 182 mm‑sized wafers, multi‑busbar PERC technology, and high‑density module packaging, the module significantly boosts power density while enhancing reliability. The company plans to begin global sales in the first half of this year, with production capacity expected to exceed 8 GW by year‑end. Meanwhile, Talesun Photovoltaic has also built up technical reserves for large‑format products such as 210 mm, aiming to achieve mass production of its 210‑series products in the second quarter of 2021.

At the end of last year, the state pledged that by 2030, the cumulative installed capacity of photovoltaic and wind power would exceed 1.2 billion kilowatts, thereby setting the development roadmap for the PV industry during the 14th and 15th Five-Year Plans. Under the “30·60” carbon‑peak target, this year’s installed capacity is also expected to be substantial, boding well for the sector’s prospects. With China entering the era of grid parity, PV companies face both challenges and opportunities; only low‑cost, high‑efficiency, high‑quality modules that meet the requirements of grid parity will secure market share.

Currently, Talesun Photovoltaic has expanded its annual production capacity to 6 GW of high-efficiency monocrystalline solar cells and 10 GW of high-efficiency solar modules. With the commissioning last year of a 5‑GW high-efficiency module plant in Shandong, the company will continue to advance new expansion and capacity‑addition projects both domestically and internationally. Talesun Photovoltaic remains committed to exploring cutting-edge technologies and pioneering innovative applications, dedicating itself to the R&D and innovation of premium photovoltaic modules, and steadily extending its presence deeper into the PV industry value chain, thereby working together with stakeholders to drive the steady advancement of the PV sector toward grid parity.
